A story about Charlie

My hens nearly got eaten by the fox today because my dad left the door on the green house open. I was very worried.

A few years ago we lost Charlie and we were very worried about her. After a few hours we started to look for her and we went to our neighbours to look around for her but they hadn't seen her. When it was getting dark there was Charlie sitting on the path. We lost Charlie for 8 hours.

my weekend with my hens

On saturday I got 7 eggs from my hens. I have got a picture of the eggs and Hazel.

We may have rats. I think I saw 1 looking at me in the hen house. The hens sometimes sleep in the old greenhouse so they have moved in there for the time being. Last time we starved the rats out by not leaving any food around and blocking any hole up.

This is a photo of the hens eating their breakfast. They are in the greenhouse.

I have got a cat called Holly and she is frightened of the hens.

Caring for my chickens

I feed them every morning - chicken treets and water. I also give them porridge, rice, brown bread, pasta, bacon rind, lettuce and fruit. They like crisps, cream craekers, cheese and biscuits for a treet.

I collect the eggs every day.

I clean the hen house every week. The hens get fresh straw every week.
If the hens don't want to go in the hen house, there may be mites in the hen house.

We let them out after the post man comes - about 12:00 pm - and they run in the field and they scratch around for bugs. They come in by themselves and before it gets dark I check to see if they are in the hen house and shut the doors to protect them from the foxes.
